In stress response, the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and stress hormones paticipate as one of important mediators. The ANS is also thought to control the sexual response in human. Clinically, it is not uncommon to develop sexual dysfunction as the sequelae of acute or chronic stress with or without loss of libido. In this study, we review the incidence, etiology of female sexual dysfunction, and investigate the clinical relationship between stress and female sexual dysfunction. Treatment of sexual problems should also address stress-sexual dysfunction relationship issues and include a focus on helping individuals improve their stress management skills.
