Background:

The stress pregnant women feel causes adverse effects on healthy maternal-fetal attachment and accordingly, it is necessary to investigate the psychological factors that can alleviate it.

Methods:

The present study set a structural equation model to investigate whether mindfulness and self-compassion, which are valuable for mental health, promote maternal-fetal attachment by reducing the perceived stress. A total of 251 responses were collected through local hospitals, community health centers, and pregnancy- and child care-related online community web sites, and data were tested using a AMOS.

Results:

The results showed that the full mediation model in which each aspect of mindfulness and self-compassion promotes maternal-fetal attachment through perceived stress is most appropriate.

Conclusions:

The significance of the present study lies in looking into the relationships among these factors that have been researched individually so far by integrating them into a model. The limitations of the present study and directions for future research were discussed in the conclusion section.

Background:

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects a cognitive behavioral intervention on perceived stress, somatic symptoms, automatic negative thoughts and dysfunctional attitudes in college students.

Methods:

This was a quasi-experimental study with a nonequivalent control group design. Students who agreed to participate in the study and had a total score of 7 or greater on the Patient Health Questionnaire-15 were asked to choose one of the two groups to attend: Experimental and control groups. Students in the experimental group (N=17) received 5-weekly group sessions of the intervention, each of which lasted 60 minutes. The interventions were not provided to the control group (N=15). Students in both groups were asked to complete a set of questionnaires at baseline and five weeks. Descriptive statistics were calculated, and t-test, Mann-Whitney U test and repeated measures ANOVA were performed.

Results:

There was a significant interaction between time and group for perceived stress, somatic symptoms and automatic negative thoughts. Dysfunctional attitudes, on the other hand, were not significantly different by group.

Conclusions:

The findings showed that the intervention was effective for college students suffering from perceived stress and somatic symptoms. In particular, the significant decrease in automatic negative thoughts among students in the intervention group suggests that the effect of the cognitive-behavioral intervention was mediated by the cognitive factors of somatic symptoms.

The study examined how self-encouragement, support-seeking emotion regulation style and perceived stress impact on psychological well-being in early adulthood. Specifically, self-encouragement through perceived stress affects psychological well-being. At the same time, support-seeking emotion regulation style sets the moderated mediating effect to moderate the impact of perceived stress on psychological well-being and it is verified. The subject of this study were conducted targeting 404 people of early adulthood (age 18∼40) in the metropolitan area. First, it shown to self-encouragement reduces perceived stress. Second, the perceived stress has been found to affect the psychological well-being. Third, self-encouragement influences psychological well-being. Finally, support-seeking emotion regulation style was never an insignificant effect, but perceived stress moderated impact on psychological well-being. This study demonstrated the mediating role of perceived stress in the relationship of self-encouragement and psychological well-being. In addition, the significance is being said that perceived stress and psychological well-being can be adjusted depending on the level of support-seeking emotion regulation style. The results of this study would be expected to provide useful data in counseling interventions in counseling scene for the psychological well-being of the early adults.
